The position of SN is R.A. ># = 2h25m02s.97, Decl. = -24o47'50".6 (J2000.0, by Doi), which is ># about 21" west and 33" south of the nucleus of NGC 922. The ># expected maximum of typical SN Ia is mag about 14.8. ># ># First discoverer is Takao Doi, a Japanese astronaut who lives in ># Texas. This is his first discovery. Berto Monard discovered it ># independently. Congratulations, Takao and Berto! Spectra of SN 2002gw taken by S.Shectman and M. Hamuy with Las Campanas 6.5-m telescopes on Oct. 24-25 revealed that it is type II SN with a high expansion velocity (9300 km/s) (IAUC 8001).
