Dear SN watchers, IAUC 7954 reports the classifications of two recent SNe. SN 2002el: In [vsnet-campaign-sn 462]: >SN2002el 20020805.3 <185:C KAI >SN2002el 20020812.3 176:C KAI >SN2002el 20020813.3 173:C KAI > ># NGC 6986, the host galaxy of SN 2002el, is a probably lenticular ># (SB0-?) galaxy. It possibly makes a cluster with many galaxies ># including IC 1336 and IC 1339. From the recession velocity of these ># members, the expected maximum for typical SN Ia is mag about 17.1. ESO and Calar Alto Observatory took specta of SN 2002el on Aug. 14 UT, which shows that it is of SN Ia on or before the maximum light. The recession velocity is measured as 9000 +/- 1000 km/s, which is consistent with the above estimate. The CCD images with Palomar Schmidt taken on Aug. 8 UT show this object at mag 19.5. SN 2002dz: In [vsnet-obs 40608](Jul. 21): >SN2002dz 20011110.2 <190:C KAI >SN2002dz 20020716.5 183:C KAI >SN2002dz 20020717.5 184:C KAI > ># The host galaxy of SN 2002dz is a spiral (SA(rs)b pec?) galaxy MCG ># -01-1-52. The expected maximum for typical SN Ia is mag about 16.0. The UCB team revealed that it is an old SN Ic (in the nebular phase) from the spectrum taken on Aug. 10 UT.
