Dear SN watchers, In [vsnet-campaign-sn 438]: ># The host galaxy of SN 2002dj is NGC 5018, an elliptical (E3:) galaxy ># affected by some Galactic extinction (A_V = 0.317). The elliptical ># galaxies would produce only SNe Ia. The position of SN is R.A. = ># 13h13m00s.34, Decl. = -19o31'08".7 (2000.0), which is about 9" west ># and 3" south of the nucleus of NGC 5018. The expected maximum of ># typical SN Ia is mag about 14.8 (the extinction included). It ># should be in quite early phase. Spectral confirmation and followup ># photometries are strongly urged. H. Yamaoka IAUC 7919 informed that the Padova team took a spectrum of SN 2002dj on June 14.15 UT at La Silla, which shows that it is of type Ia well before (~10 days) maximum light. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
