Dear SN watchers, The KAIT team has found a bright SN in the monrning sky (at least for the northern observer :-). Accoring to IAUC 7679, the discovery was made on Aug 7.5 when the object was mag about 15.4C. The position is R.A. = 1h55m40s.55, Decl. = -29d55'20".7 (2000.0), which is about 7" due west of the nucleus of the spiral ((R'_1)SB(s)0/a) galaxy NGC 749. This galaxy has bright bulge (surrounded by ring-like region) and rather faint arm structure, and the SN superimposed on the bulge. Note that there is a foreground star (mag about 15) about 63" west and 13" north of the nucleus of NGC 749. The expected maximum of typical SN Ia on this galaxy is around 15.5 mag. The follow-up magnitude estimates are encouraged, as well as the spectroscopic confirmation and type determination. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
