Below is a detailed report. Cheers, Weidong ----------------------------------------- SN 2000xxx in NGC 524 C. Yu, M. Modjaz, and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, on behalf of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (cf. IAUC 6627, 7126) with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT), report the discovery of an apparent supernova in NGC 524. The SN was discovered and confirmed on unfiltered images taken on Jul 17.5 UT (mag about 14.5) and Jul 18.4 UT (mag about 14.3), respectively. The new object is located at R.A. = 01h24m46s.15, Decl. = +09o30'30".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 23".0 west and 109".3 south of the nucleus of NGC 524. A KAIT image of the same field on Aug 31.4 UT, 1998 showed nothing at the position of the SN (limiting mag about 19.5).
