   Well, there is no direct way to see the result is right or wrong...
(if the results are always below zero, it would be most likely that the
subtraction is wrong).

   Please remind that subtraction in this form (or other) should be
regarded as only "first approximation" (although the same strategy is
frequently used when the separation is essentially impossible), and one
might know that there is a better way to extract the information from the
same images.  The subtraction of the constant flux is not the final, or
the best way in the case of WZ Sge, having a separation of 10 arcsec.

   The Kyoto team has been performing both aperture and PSF photometry
(as parallel processes) since the very start of the outburst.
