I have more carefully inspected my year old image
of M32 (attached here.)
Although the core of the gx is more heavily exposed
in the older image there appears to be a bulge on
the edge of the core at the exact location of the
suspect nova.
Until better data becomes available. I think that this
may not be a new object.
