Hi all, In view of the call for visual monitoring of PKS 2155-304 (=H 2154-304) I have found a sequence of accurate V magnitudes for this Blazar, by Smith, Januzzi and Elston (Astrophysical J. Suppl. 77:67-73, 1991 September). They list three comparison stars, all of them proving to have GSC numbers, as well as the Blazar itself. The data is given below. Comp. GSC # (J2000) V B-V ======================================================= 2 7488.00340 21:59:02.4 -30:10:46 12.04 0.69 3 7488.00775 21:59:05.2 -30:10:51 12.97 0.92 C 7488.00791 21:58:46.4 -30:17:52 12.61 0.58 PKS 2155-304 = H2154-304 = GSC 7488.01302 21:58:52.0 -30:13:32 A REQUEST: ++++++++++ PKS 2155-304 appears to be a fairly bright (southern) BL Lac object. Are there any other similar southern examples, and comparison sequences? I have a number of sequences for (mainly) northern objects. It would be very helpful if someone could post a list of the brighter BL Lac objects (northern and southern). An indication as to where comparison sequences may be found would also be very helpful. For example the other BL Lac object mentioned by Berto, 2005-489, appears to be within range of visual observers, but I have no information on it, nor whether a good sequence exists. The Smith et al paper targets 38 X-ray selected BL Lac objects. There must be others, not necessarily X-ray emitters??? /Mati /=====================================\ | MOREL ASTROGRAPHICS | | Stellar Data & Information Centre | | c/o M.
