[vsnet-alert 295] rapid fading of Nova Cas 1995

As many readers have noticed in vsnet-obs messages, Nova Cas 1995 has
experienced a dramatic fading after attaining a peak of mv~7.0.
Judging from similarity of IUE spectra of Nova Cas 1995 and 1993,
S. Shore and S. Starrfield suggest in Nova Net that the nova may be
showing a possible dust forming event as was observed in Nova Cas 1993.
Visual observations indicate that the nova may be at ~8.5. From my
inspection of the light curve, this might also be analogous to the rapid
fading of Nova Cas 1993 after attaining its peak brightness of mv~5.2-5.3,
which was well before the true onset of the dust forming event.

Whether the dust event or not, closer observations of this nova are
most urgently requested.

Taichi Kato
