I guess the date was Dec. 2.700 UT in the message (not 1.700)
My own estimate yesterday, was:
Dec. 2.260 UT, mv = 4.97+-0.08, using 7 stars from Hipparcos
catalog, 7x50 Binoculars from honolulu.
AQLV1494 991202.260 50 BIV N.Biver (Honolulu, HI, USA)
