Observation Date/Time: 14-May-98,02:30UT (5/13/98 10:30pm EDT)
Observing Conditions: Naked Eye LM 5.1 (Nearly Full Moon rising)
Telescope LM 12
Seeing steady, high altitude haze
Instrument: 10.1 f4/5 Newt on Dob Mount
20mm, 9mm eyepieces
Estimated magnitude: 11.5 +/- .1 Based on M. Funada chart and GSC
stars referenced through Guide 6.0.
SN not easily noticeable in 20mm (60X).
SN obvious in 9mm eyepiece (125x). North of galactic nucleus still
within the fuzz of the galaxy. Brighter than the nucleus. Slightly
dimmer than the 11.4 star to the NW shown on the M. Funada chart.
Note: if the SN continues to brighten easily accessible reference stars
will need to be identified.
