[vsnet-chat 6798] Re: Revised astrometry of GCVS

Dear Dr. Brian Skiff,

Thank you for your comments.

I could find the following three files contain all of GCVS stars and
NSV stars, including the Name List 77.

  http://ftp.sai.msu.su/pub/groups/cluster/gcvs/gcvs/iii/iii.dat
  http://ftp.sai.msu.su/pub/groups/cluster/gcvs/gcvs/nsv/nsv.dat
  http://ftp.sai.msu.su/pub/groups/cluster/gcvs/gcvs/nsvsup/nsvs.dat

I looked up stars revised in IBVS 4813 and 4841 by us.

Stars in Aql, Cyg, Lac, Lyr, Oph have been already revised in the
files above. But the coordinates slightly differ from those in our
papers, so probably they were revised based on other sources, not our
papers. But anyway, they have been already revised.

On the other hand, any of stars in Sge, Sgr, Sct, Vul have not been
revised yet. It seems depending on the constellations in alphabetical
order. So I imagine the GCVS team is now revising their catalogs from
A to Z in order of constellation, but still in the midway.

The Query form service shows us the coordinates in 0.1 arcsec
accuracy. But in the "iii.dat" file, the coordinates are recorded only
in 1 arcsec accuracy. Which file are the coordinates in 0.1 arcsec
accuracy recorded in?

As wrote above, stars in Cyg have been already revised by GCVS
team. However, I found some stars in Cyg revised by us and reported to
vsnet-id, have not been merged in the "iii.dat" yet, like V2010 Cyg in
[vsnet-id 299].

So I do not think that vsnet-id is a good place to report the revised
positions.

Due to the slight difference between the positions in our papers and
in "iii.dat", probably our paper did not help the GCVS team at
all. So, probably, IBVS is not a good place to report the revised
positions, either.

Anyway, I will pick up stars whose position in the current GCVS file
is very far from the true position and post to vsnet-id, but I will
forget about stars whose catalogued positions several arcsec differ
from the true positions.

Best regards,
