This description is not very true. V418 Cas was originally reported
as a "nova-like" object (Nova-aehnlich) based on the rather rapid rise
and the absence on POSS. Hoffmeister probably suspected a nova at the
time of the discovery, but the discovery of another brightening in the
past photographs probably led him to add "-like".

Speaking of Mira stars which were long observed as dwarf nova candidates,
one may remember the cases of SU Lyr and V362 Cep. Although these objects
may not appear in CV catalogs, they more adequately represent the past
confusions between these two classes.
