Re: [vsnet-chat 6473] Re: [AAVSO-DIS] Re: V589 Her not in outburst > P.S. Found the abstract on a paper by Honeycutt, Robertson, and Turner > on stunted outbursts at This paper refers to UU Aqr, Q Cyg, CP Lac, X Ser and RW Sex. None of them are dwarf novae. The discussion in this paper is understandable to me, but I have no idea to associate these outbursts with transient short phenomena (if they are indeed present) in dwarf novae. By the way, almost all CVs show "flickering" (as I stated several times), and they can have amplitudes of 1 mag. The brief sightings of HT Cas at 16 may have been such flickering maxima. The quiescence of HT Cas is not so faint (normally at V=16.4 outside the eclipses; the star is known to sometimes show fadings in addition to this). So, a superposition of a flickering activity would easily bring this object to a detectable object. On other occassions, I have succesfully identified similar "short-lived" brightenings of some other dwarf novae, notably IP Peg, with orbital humps. Regards, Taichi Kato
