Reason why the AAVSO members don't get news from VSNET? To those who had been enjoying News from VSNET via the AAVSO discussion, and those who are expecting to receive further new information or alert from VSNET, we are obliged to make the following sad news. [Please relay this message to the AAVSO members, if they are not aware of this discussion forum and still waiting for news issues]. I have received from Aaron Price regarding the supposed decision by the AAVSO. My original requests follow: === Aaron, this is my request to circulate the information to the AAVSO members. You are the best person to contact for supplying information, as other professional astromers do. === Aaron, I haven't yet had experience with a formal reply regarding the decision you mentioned from Janet. We have been exchanging all information from VSNET for more than ten years, and we have received AAVSO information as well, and it is hard to believe that Janet has made such a formal decision. If there is such one, please relay it to me. Since we have been receiving questions why they can't get VSNET information via the AAVSO network as before, we need to clarify the reason by making an official relay of the AAVSO decision. I know that the AAVSO still continues receiving requests from the professional community, please relay this request from VSNET in any appropriate form (if not via the AAVSO discussion) to the AAVSO community/members. Regards, Taichi Kato VSNET admin === I thought this was a formal request of call for observations by VSNET (professional astronomers group, although Aaron may have not recognized as such), but Aaron mentioned that it is impossible and it is against netiquette(??). I presume that this is Aaron's misunderstanding that the AAVSO makes distinction between requests from the professional community *simply* (or automatically, as Aaron referred) based on the group of original information. Is anyone aware of a similar case? When I receive formal words from the AAVSO director, as asked to Aaron as above, I will relay them more about this matters. (From our experience with the AAVSO, as exemplifed in vsnet-history records, I don't personally feel that the AAVSO is refusing all information from VSNET; the cases had been always cooperative, on the contrary).
