Would the author of the PCObs update the conversion function regarding the Greek-letter names? A recommendation from my side is either of the following: 1) Record observations with case-sensitive letters (eg CEPmu and CEPMU) and reported them as they are to VSNET. When you report observations to an organization with non-case-sensitive nomenclature, convert the data with some script languagle (for example "s/CEPmu/CEPMU/g" in sed, perl). 2) VSNET provides a ready-to-use command-line data entry program. A number of VSNET observers use this program and most efficiently produce necessary reports. If one is more accustomed to text editors rather than GUI-based data entry, this program will be most efficient. http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/etc/prog.html and look for "pp1vs.exe" (there are a source code "pp1vs.c" and a manual, too. I have confirmed that the source code can be compiled with gcc with a miminal change on different operating systems). I personally use this program to create daily reports. Once you know how pp1vs.exe works, you will find the reason of the efficiency. Please relay this information and program to anyone who would be interested. Regards, Taichi Kato
