[vsnet-chat 6201] Re: (fwd) 2MASS J-Ks colours and spectral types

The interstellar extinction at K is about a factor of 10 down from
that in the visible, so only when it's really large in the visible
is it significant for J-K colors. There's stuff near the Galactic Center
that has J-K of like 4 or 5 or 6, which is probably physically
impossible for an unreddened star, but no problem at all when the
visual extinction is 10 or 20 or 30 magnitudes!
