This is a satellite. obviously very high and very slow moving (you probably
didn't notice the movement while you were looking down to avoid the
alligators)
I have seen it on 3 or 4 occassions doing exactly as you describe.
You have to look carefully to detect the motion, but it is there.
It would be interesting to know what the mission is.
