I'll turn your question upside down...
...how do you know when you are looking at Canopus?
Well, the star scanner this time goes down to equivalent to mag 2 and a bit
as far as I can tell, so delta Velorum is gonna end up being one of the
objects in the field you use for pattern recognition.
[That's a guess from looking at Guide, as I've to stand at extreme tip toe
on the roof to see those stars from here ;^) ]
