After R.Prager (Geschichte und Literatur des Lichtwechsels der
Veraenderlichen Sterne, Zweite Ausgabe, Erster Band, Berlin, 1934) we
know that CI AQL was first classified as Nova by Parenago (P.Z. 33,34).
He analyzed 19 plates taken at the Simeis Observatory: only on two of
them (on 1909/08/10 and on 1926/07/05) he found CI AQL (both at
mag.15:); Parenago deducted that it is a Nova as on the plate taken by
Reinmuth at the Koenigstuhl Observatory (AN 5399) on 1917/06/25 the star
was recorded at mag.11.

References listed in H.Schneller (G.u.L., 1936) are:

E.Zinner (A.N. 265,346) writes: "26 plates from J.d.2425791 to
J.d.2427604 don't show stars brighter than mag.12-13 in the position of
CI AQL."
