[vsnet-chat 2895] CI Aql outburst in 1917

CI Aql outburst in 1917

I have been rather surprised to know that the AN article by Reinmuth
(1925) announcing the discovery of CI Aql lists only 6 observations,
and only one(!) in 1917 (the nova discovery). I wonder whether the nova
nature was already noticed among these data. The citation in the GCVS 1
and Duerbeck's nova catalog seems to suggest that the nova classification
was made by Parenago (in Perem. Zvezdy 3). Does anyone have an access
to Parenago's literature? Did subsequent observations suggest the nova
classification?

Anyway, the only one available outburst observation (11.0p) is only
by 0.5 mag fainter than the current B magnitude. Considering most "fast"
recurrent novae fade more than 0.3 mag/d, the single 1917 observation close
to the presently observed level may imply that the 1917 outburst was also
a rather slow one.

Taichi Kato
