Latest results from Dec 14.14 UT show the optical transient at R=21.6. While amateurs might still be able to detect it, the OT is near twilight and you might not be able to get enough integration time before the sky background swamps you (an advantage of big telescopes -- they can use shorter exposure times and get sufficient S/N before twilight). Still, those of you with big 'scopes might give it a shot. This one is fading slowly and is unusually blue and so is a rare bird. Personally, I have yet to see it. The 1.0-m telescope (the ORIGINAL R-C telescope, by the way) was built in the 1930's and has a limited hour-angle range. Tonight will be the first night that it enters the proper range while it is dark enough. Even so, I have to hope that the jet stream moves far enough north that the seeing improves. Arne
