For those of you with CCD systems and willing to work
at dawn, there was a relatively bright gamma ray burst
a few days ago (December 8 0436 UT). The optical
transient for this object was detected at R=19 on
December 10, and is currently about R=20.5. This
will be a difficult CCD observation, but is one of
the few GRB optical transients that an amateur could
observe. The coordinates are:
RA(2000) = 16h 33m 53.51s, Dec(2000) = +46 27 21.5
and a finding chart is available at:
http://vsnet.laeff.esa.es/~ajct/GRBs/GRB991208
I'd be interested if any amateur actually can detect
this optical transient.
