Kato-san mentioned that CV Aqr, while listed as non-cv in DWS, is a good candidate for a further study. I'll include it in my July observing run. However, DWS list 1020 stars that could possibly be called 'cataclysmic'. I have no idea how many of these stars have been carefully studied, and how many new CV-like stars have been discovered since their termination date of 1996. I observed about 120 CV fields in the first two sequence papers (in collaboration with Honeycutt), and there are perhaps another 120 in CV3 and CV4 (in preparation, in collaboration with Bruce Sumner. See the current proposed stars for CV3 at http://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/aah/cv3/cv3.obs with final .dat files and .seq files being those posted after June 1). Misselt has another set of sequences, so let's say that 300 or 400 fields have standards. For the 3rd catalog of cataclysmic variables, I'd rather see a table of 'confirmed' stars, followed by a table of 'suspected' variables. Towards that end, I'm enjoying the hunt for some of these elusive candidates, but I certainly can't look at all 1020+ stars. This is an example of where amateur participation certainly helps! Arne
