On NSV00895 In MVS 12, 76 (1990), Wenzel et al. provided a further positive detection and the constructed light curve of NSV00895. According to this article, the object was observed at mag 11.2 (!) on 1937 Jan. 31, about 20 days prior to the Meshkova (1940), when the object was at 11.7 (the data given in the NSV). The outburst amplitude greater than 10 mag was inferred. Neither accurate astrometry nor chart was given. Although the object lies close to UGC 2172 = ZG 238+43, the peak brightness would make it highly improbable to be its supernova (the galaxy is included in the CfA survey, but no redshift is given).
