Dear Friends,

according to my sources NGC 1961 has a distance modulus
in the 33.3-34 range. If the sn is type Ia then its
apparent magnitude at maximun would have been in the 15.0
15.5 range, easily detectable visually, within the time
frame indicated by IAUC 7018.

I suspect though that the supernova is quite absorbed by
the host galaxy and may have not reached that brightness.

Good observing.
