G'day all,

The mysterious "V17-NGC5128" remains in a high state (~10th magnitude).
To avoid possible confusion with a genuine SN - and to encourage
further observations - I have put a chart online at:

http://vsnet.assa.org.au/vstars/v17-5128.zip

This is an extract from Thompson & Bryant's Supernova Search Chart for
NGC5128 and should suffice for visual observations. Despite its GCVS
name, V17 apparently is the northeast component of a double star in
front of NGC5128.

Do any SN hunters have some historical images, observing notes, etc of
V17 ? An event was seen during 1996 February; and another during
observations of SN1986G.

Another 12th mag foreground star, "in" the dark band of NGC5128, has
also embarrassed a few observers! ;-)

cheers,
Fraser Farrell
