[vsnet-chat 360] Re: [vsnet-alert 946] rare outburst of MM Sco

Regarding vsnet-alert 946 and vsnet-chat 359

vsnet-alert 946 suggests that more observations of MM SCO are
needed. This variable has been under regular observation by members
of the VSS RASNZ for well over 20 years, and many outbursts have
been observed. Only a few southern hemisphere observers (Stubbings,
Nelson, Farrell in Australia; Hers, Overbeek, Monard in South Africa,
to name a few) submit their outburst observation details to VSNET,
while a great many others ONLY submit their observations to VSS RASNZ
(or other variable star organizations). Do not forget these many,
relatively unknown but very keen, variable star observers in the
southern hemisphere, who, in addition to regualrly observing this
variable, also keep under constant surveillance some 1000 other
variable stars.

V485 CEN is another variable that VSS RASNZ observers have been
regularly monitoring for over 20 years. The suggestion (vsnet-chat 359)
for continuing close monitoring is not necessary to southern
hemisphere observers, particularly those who can reach visual
magnitude 14 - they are keeping it under regular observation.

Results of VSS RASNZ observations, including outburst activity of
such variables as MM SCO, are published in Publications, VSS, RASNZ,
with several Publications issued each year.

VSS RASNZ does not have an internet presence, but do not forget
their activities.

Regards,

Bruce Sumner
