[vsnet-chat 247] RX Com

Upen query from T. Kinnunen, I have noticed some queer things regarding
RX Com, which might be interesting to some readers.

RX Com was once suspected to be a dwarf nova. E. Yu. Osminkin 1986
(Perem. Zvezdy 22, 421) classifed this star as a Mira-type with a period
of 211.11 days. He also gave a finding chart. The marked star is located
near 12h 59m 03s +15o 09'.1 (J2000.0) by comparing with a GSC-based chart
(my rough eye estimate). The position by Osminkin differs from the GCVS
position by several arcmin, and at the GCVS position there is a 12.6-mag
GSC star (position 125859.71 +151121.1) which does not appear on Osminkin's
chart. Furthermore spectroscopic observation by Mukai et al. (MNRAS 245, 385)
seems to denote another star (I could not find a match between their charts).
Another star Osminkin studied, RU Com, is located within the error of the
GCVS position.

It seems still possible there is another variable other than Osminkin's
Mira star. A close look at the field (including I-band images) would solve
problems. This variable is not cataloged in IRAS PSC.

Regards,
Taichi Kato
