RU Hor rare outburst! Rod Stubbings just reported that the dwarf nova RU Hor is undergoing an outburst (vsnet-outburst 5941). The object only infrequently undergoes outburst (2000 November, short outburst; 1999 August, long outburst?). The true quiescence is much fainter than the cataloged value (17.5p), which is most lilely from the confusion with the upper limit. YYYYMMDD(UT) mag observer 20030425.419 <137 (Rod Stubbings) 20030426.408 <138 (Rod Stubbings) 20030504.385 <138 (Rod Stubbings) 20030827.619 <138 (Rod Stubbings) 20030830.592 <138 (Rod Stubbings) 20030927.501 132 (Rod Stubbings) Considering all the circumstances, this object is more likely a large-amplitude SU UMa-type dwarf nova, which may be undergoing a superoutburst. We strongly encourage urgent time-resolved CCD photometry to search for superhumps. The object is suitably located for southern observers, and we wish for their contributions to this observing campaign! Regards, Taichi Kato VSNET Collaboration team
