To: those sending visual magnitude estimates of supernovae, novae, and
unusual variable stars to us for possible inclusion in the IAU Circulars
Subject: reporting format
Once again, we are getting many, many observations of SN 1994D, and as with
objects of this type when we do get so much data reported for the IAUCs,
it takes a large amount of time to prepare them for possible publication.
Some observers have (for a long time) been reporting observations in a format
that is very helpful to us: the same format as is used on the IAUCs. We
may start only including such reported data on the IAUCs, since we are still
left with a lot of data even before the non-IAUC-format data are even
considered. So, may I please ask you to begin immediately sending all of
your data for the IAUCs in the same format that is used on the IAUCs?
This means one line per observation, but given as in the example below
(note no extra spaces, semicolons at the end of each line, first and middle
names reduced to initials, etc., etc.):
Mar. 4.49 UT, 8.6 (W. G. Dillon, Missouri City, TX);
5.181, 8.9 (K. Hornoch, Lelekovice, Czech Republic);
5.20, 8.6 (M. V. Zanotta, Laino, Italy);
9.19, 9.0 (Zanotta);
10.20, 9.4 (Zanotta);
10.458, 10.9 (Dillon);
12.16, 12.8: (L. Szentask\'o, R\'aktanya, Hungary);
Thank you VERY much for helping us on this issue!
Best regards, Daniel W. E. Green
