Subject: V838 Mon Getting Brighter in Ic Band
In IAUC 7976 A. M. Watson and R. Costero report "The star has brightened in
the range 8.7-11.9
microns by about 3 mag since January (cf. IAUC 7831)." My Ic band photometry
also indicates (see below) that V838 Mon is
getting brighter in the near IR. A simple linear fit to the observations
indicates the brightening is occurring at a rate of 0.008 mag/day.

Color transformed Ic band CCD photometry
Photometric aperture radius 6.84"
Equipment: 0.2 m SCT + ST-9E CCD + Ic filter
comparison star GSC 4822:3661, Ic=9.664 per A. Henden
V-Ic=5 used for V838 Mon in color transformations
2002 Sep 3.443 UT, Ic = 10.70 +/- 0.03
2002 Sep 9.433 UT, Ic = 10.68 +/- 0.03
2002 Sep 18.441 UT, Ic = 10.63 +/- 0.03
2002 Sep 24.441 UT, Ic = 10.53 +/- 0.03
