SN 2002D

The host galaxy is NGC 594, and its recession velocity predicts the maximum for a typical SN Ia is 16.0mag. The object was discovered at 16.8mag, possibly in the rising phase (vsnet-campaign-sn 315). It turned out to be of type II as shown in a spectrum taken by the CfA team. The discovery magnitude is somewhat brighter than the typical SN II (vsnet-campaign-sn 320).
