Gamma-Ray Burst in the Afterglow Era: 2nd Workshop

                       A Joint CNR/ESO Meeting

                         C.N.R. Headquarters

                            Rome - Italy

                         October 17-20, 2000

The Science of Gamma-Ray Burst is keeping alive the attention of the
High Energy Astrophysicists and authoritatively invading other domains.
Our extremely active community is displaying an impressive capability of
producing new data and new interpretations. Beside the continuous wealth
of data produced by BATSE and BeppoSAX (recently funded up to April 2001),
and by the huge Optical/Radio coverage, with the consequent increase of the
number of afterglow sources and redshifts, the link with Star Forming
Galaxies in the Early Universe, the discussion on the Supernova Connection,
and that on the basic mechanisms, jets, and central engine, new wonders are
soon expected from HETE-2, from the rejuvenated IPN, from the first
observations with Chandra, XMM and ASTRO-E that will be available in the
first half of 2000.

For this reason we are going to hold a second Workshop
"Gamma-Ray Burst in the Afterglow Era" at CNR Headquarters in Rome on
October 17 to 20, 2000. The Workshop will be held in honour of
Jan van Paradijs to remind his enormous contribution to the science
of Gamma-Ray Bursts.

The workshop is organized by IAS and ITeSRE, the two Italian Institutes
more involved in this new GRB Science, and ESO, a leader organization in
the field of Optical Counterpart Searches.
The meeting will be hosted at CNR Headquarters where a suitable conference
room is available, right in the Center of Rome.
The Rome GRB meeting will be preceded by a one-day Mini-Workshop on Soft
Gamma-ray Repeaters in the same builidings (16 October).
