EG Cnc ------ It seems to be this bright cataclysmic variable has been monitored only by few observers. Concerning recent report of possible positive detection by T. Watanabe (vsnet-obs 1398 on Oct. 23; this observation has not been confirmed), I would like to introduce this variable. EG Cnc was discovered by M. Huruhata as an eruptive variable (H11). Only single outburst in 1977 has been recorded (IBVS No. 2401). Although this variable was initially designated as a nova-like object, R. McNaught correctly identified the quiescence and suggested it to be more resemble an infrequently outbursting dwarf nova like UZ Boo and WX Cet. Magnitude estimates reported in IBVS 2401 for the 1977 outburst: UT mag 1997 Nov. 9.8 [12.0 12.8 11.9 18.8 12.5: 19.7 12.4 20.7 12.3 20.8 12.0 21.7 12.3 22.8 12.4 Dec. 3.8 14.0: 4.7 14.0: 6.7 [14.0 7.9 14.1 8.7 [14.0 10.7 [14.0 The long duration of the outburst and possible presence of a fading tail may suggest that the object may belong to WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. 084003.26 +280239.2 1950 EG Cnc UG 11.9V-18.0B Regards, Taichi Kato
