VSNet readers, The suspected nova reported recently by Moynihan lies quite close to BD+25 2757, V=9.38, B-V 1.08. This BD star is missing in the GSC, and no doubt also missing in CD-ROM charts based on the GSC. When such (flawed) charts are used by observers, it can result in false alarms, by well-meaning individuals. I have found that quite commonly stars of 8-10 mag are omitted from the GSC, even in relatively uncrowded parts of the sky. Observers who use the GSC as a charting tool should be aware of its incomplete coverage of the sky. Regards, Mati Morel
