Dear variable star observers: As some of you may know, the ASTRO-2 mission is going to be launched on the Space Shuttle Endeavour on March 2nd. As part of that package, Wisconsin has the Wisconsin Ultraviolet Photo-Polarimeter Experiment (WUPPE) which will be obtaining ultraviolet spectropolarimetry and spectra of a wide variety of objects. Of particular interest to me, we are going to be observing various cataclysmic variables. In the case of the dwarf novae, we would like to observe them in outburst and hence I ask that any variable star observers notify me if the following dwarf novae go into outburst: These objects will be observed ----------------------- VW Hyi U Gem Z Cam SS Cyg RX And WX Hyi EM Cyg AR And YZ Cnc These objects may be observed if they go into outburst during the mission --------------------------------------------------------------- SW UMa OY Car BV Cen HL CMa During the mission, I will be at Marshall Space Flight Center, but I will be checking my e-mail here for the regular vsnet alerts. However, if it's not too much trouble, I would appreciate notification of outbursts to be sent to: replan@potosi.msfc.nasa.gov so that other team members can see it when I'm asleep! Thank you much in advance, and clear skies! Joni Johnson jjj@uwast.astro.wisc.edu
