The RXTE X-ray lightcurve of Eta Car through May 28 is available at http://lheawww.gsfc.nasa.gov/users/corcoran/eta_car/etacar_rxte_lightcurve/ a decrease of 2.2 cts/s - is this the ingress to eclipse? linearly extrapolating from the May 26 peak through the last 2 points implies that eclipse totality will be near June 27 2003, consistent with the previous eclipse totality if the period is 5.52 yrs. The slope of the ingress (if that's what this is!) is steeper compared to the 1997/98 ingress. see http://lheawww.gsfc.nasa.gov/users/corcoran/eta_car/2003.5/#annotated_lc for more details cheers Mike -- *********************************************************** Dr. Michael F.
