[vsnet-rcb 472] (fwd) New light decline of DY Per
New light decline of DY Per.
According to the photographic observations made with the Schmidt =
telescope=20
of the Baldone observatory of the Institute of Astronomy, University of =
Latvia=20
a new decline event of the enigmatic (both long-period and RCB-like=20
variations: A.Alksnis, 1994BaltA...3..410A) variable carbon star DY Per=20
has started. The average decline rate during the last 20 days was in=20
red light - R(630nm) 0.04 mag/d (rate increasing), in blue light - b=20
0.025 mag/d. At JD2452387 R(630)=3D11.0 mag, b=3D14.6 mag.=20
It is impossible to predict the depth of this decline, the early =
decline,=20
however, is similar to that of the decline event 1993-1994. No RCB-like =
decline=20
was observed during the previous cycle of long-period (P=3D792d) =
variations.
Photometric observations in various passbands as well as spectroscopic=20
observations during the low light of DY Per would be important to =
discover the=20
nature of this star.
