V551 Sgr and V2051 Oph Dear Colleauges, As Rod reported, and Ishioka-san commented, V551 Sgr (related to WZ Sge-type stars?) is undergoing an outburst! From: Ryoko Ishioka <ishioka@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp> Subject: [vsnet-alert 7711] V551 Sgr outburst: a WZ Sge candidate Rod Stubbings reported an outburst of V551 Sgr [vsnet-outburst 5458]. The last observed outburst was in 2001 May. ***Quotes from VSNET 2001*** V551 Sgr : Long outburst of a WZ Sge candidate in May A. Pearce reported that an outburst of the dwarf nova V551 Sgr occurred in mid-May. The last outburst was in 2000 April. The object has been claimed to be a possible WZ Sge-like object, based on its large outburst amplitude. One the occasion of the 1998 October outburst, G. Garradd obtained time-series photometry on two nights, but the short visibility hindered a firm conclusion on the existence of superhumps (vsnet-campaign 941). The outburst continued relatively long (vsnet-campaign-dn 840, 849, 865). 882). Best Regards, Ryoko Ishioka === Please observe V551 Sgr as much as you can (hopefully several hours). We would be also happy, as usual, to receive representative images (FITS) for astrometry and presentation (address: yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp). Although the position of V551 Sgr was measured in the past, we need higher-quality data and more concrete quiescent identification. We are also following V2051 Oph, which is also an important target. If you are going to observe the both objects, spend some hours in V2051 Oph, at least to ensure 1-cycle (including 1 eclipse) coverage. Good luck! I will report a new summary of V2051 Oph observation later in vsnet-campaign-v2051oph. Regards, Taichi Kato VSNET Collaboration team
