I note that there are two Landolt standard stars not far from this
variable that could be used to set zero-points directly with CCDs or for
getting adjustments to CCD and photographic plate data a bit closer:

Name RA (J2000) Dec V B-V V-R V-I
SA 200-1172 0 25 47.57 -74 12 07.1 11.98 0.51 0.29 0.60
SA 200-1173 0 25 49.11 -74 08 33.5 12.34 0.58 0.33 0.62

>From these two stars, I see that the UCAC1 magnitudes in this area are within
a few percent of Cousins R, which folks might also take advantage of.
There is also DENIS coverage available in this area, meaning that you can
obtain Cousins I magnitudes for just about any star in the field. You can
search the DENIS catalogue using VizieR (item II/228A/denisSMC).
Many regions in the SMC are covered by the UBVI survey of Zaritsky et al
(item J/AJ/123/855/table1 in VizieR), which may be useful for other stars.
