[vsnet-obs 4576] CVC 117 (V493 Lyr, DX And, EG Cnc, QY Per)

V493 Lyr [UG, 13.2 - 18.0p]
===========================

Jochen Pietz, Germany and Lasse Jensen, Denmark independently report
their visual detection of an outburst of V493 Lyr. This quite
remarkable object (see below) is included in the TA/BAAVSS Recurrent
Objects Programme. Available observations at present :

1996 Dec 13.069 UT, [14.1  (G. Hanson);
     Dec 14.71  UT,  14.7  (J. Pietz);
     Dec 14.76  UT,  14.7  (J. Pietz);

The previous outburst of V493 Lyr was observed by J. Pietz on November
20, 1995 [CVC 72], when the object reached mag. 13.5 [CVC 72]. As noted
by Tonny Vanmunster, Belgium in a VSNET message on November 27, 1995,
this variable showed brightness variations of nearly 0.5 magnitudes
in narrow time intervals, during that outburst. Experienced visual
observers recorded this event several times.

It would of course be extremely interesting to closely monitor the
present outburst of V493 Lyr (preferably by CCD), in order to determine
if this behaviour is re-occuring.

DX And [UG, 10.9p - 16.4p]
==========================

The ongoing DX And outburst, first announced in CVC 116, seems to be a
quite unusual one, due to its faintness. The variable did not yet become
brighter than mag. 12.7 during the present outburst, which is the
faintest recorded maximum magnitude of DX And in the Outburst Activity
Database on Selected Cataclysmic Variables, except for an outburst
in January 1981 (when a maximum magnitude of 12.9 was reported). Since
the outburst isn't over yet, we strongly advise to keep on monitoring
this object.

EG Cnc [UGSU, 11.9v - 17:v]
===========================

EG Cnc definitely is fading, as indicated by the observations in
the photometric summary below, which is a continuation of the table
presented in CVC 116. A rebrightening of EG Cnc in the coming week or
two is not unlikely at all, and has been observed in other variables
with long recurrence times. Despite the unfavourable conditions in the
next two weeks (full moon), we encourage visual and CCD observers to
give EG Cnc top priority and to immediately report a possible brightening.

QY Per [UG, 14.2p - <20p]
=========================

The outburst observation of QY Per on Dec 07.88 UT by J. Pietz,
Germany, reported in our previous CVC, has not been confirmed.
Approximately 3 nights later, on Dec 11.401 UT, the variable
was fainter than mag V=16.63, following a CCD image at Ouda
Observatory, Kyoto University, Japan. Several negative visual
observations were reported in the nights following December 11
too.
