G'day all,
The position of this event falls within VSS,RASNZ Charts 117/118 (W
& RS Phe), which were used for a comparison sequence. The position
does not exactly coincide with any GSC object - but GSC 8477.00868
8477.00715 and 8477.00680 (GSC mags 12.0, 12.4 & 13.7) are close by.
Visual observation at 1996 July 26 15:20UT revealed a mag 10.9v
object at 01h28m -56d21' (+/- 4'), with no other objects brighter
than 11.2v within 10'. Weather conditions were poor (patchy
cloud, mist & Moonlight).
I am not certain if this was the ALEXIS object or one of the GSC
stars listed above. However, I will be checking this location
more carefully whenever I observe W Phe in future.
cheers,
Fraser Farrell
