[vsnet-obs 970] Re: FY Vul & V344 Lyr

| FY Vul. There seems to be major differences in european and
| japanese observations of this star. The european observers (VMT, JLT, Pietz)
| get
| mag. 14.0 - 14.6. The japanese observations are often far beyond mag. 15.
| What is wrong ?

This is because Japanese observer of FY Vul uses unfiltered CCD. The
high sensitivity of CCDs to the red light often result fainter estimates
of CVs (blue objects) than visual ones. Although the absolute values of
magnitudes by unfiltered CCDs will be different from visual ones, these
estimates would be consistent within the same observer with the same
instrument.

Recent estimate of FY Vul at Ouda Station gives V=13.7, which is
consistent with visual estimates. A V-band chart including this estimate
is also available as a VSNET chart by anonymous ftp.
