***** OBSERVATIONS FROM JULY 18/19, 1995 ****
The bright RV Tauri type variable R Scuti is currently very faint.
Using comparison stars "80" and "86" from the AAVSO (b) chart, under-
signed estimated the magnitude as 8.2 (light estimate: 80 2 v 4 86,
class 2, instrument 8" SCT, 80x). The previous deep minimum was in
May, 1994. The mira type variable Chi Cygni has faded to mv = 5.9.
From our latitude (+60 degrees) the maximum solar depression has now
reached 9 degrees (mid-nautical twilight). The faintest star seen with
the naked eye on July 18/19 was 26 Cygni (V = 5.05).
A major display of noctilucent clouds was also observed, and a report
has been sent to the usenet news group sci.astro.amateur.
I will be absent and away from Internet, for about a week from tomorrow
(July 20, 1995).
Kind regards,
Bjorn H. Granslo
