Last Wednesday night (March 22/23) I attempted to detect
superhumps in CY UMa by standard visual means. Formal
details are below:
Instrument: 0.26m refl.
Sequence: TA 890422
Method: Pogson step, using star C as the sole comparison
throughout
Time(UT) JD-2449000 mv Class
Mar 22 23:24:50 799.4756 12.4 1
22 23:49:15 799.4925 12.4 1
23 00:01:59 799.5014 12.4 1
23 00:16:54 799.5117 12.3 1
23 00:29:34 799.5205 12.2 1
23 00:42:22 799.5294 12.3 1
23 00:52:37 799.5365 12.3 1
23 01:02:24 799.5433 12.3 1
23 01:15:58 799.5528 12.3 1
23 01:28:40 799.5616 12.3 1
23 01:55:17 799.5801 12.4 1
Notes: The rise between about midnight and 0h30m was
quite striking. The estimates at 0h29m and the following
two may have been a shade (0.05 mag?) too faint - that's
a limitation of a method with steps of 0.1 mag.
I wonder if anyone else was observing superhumps in CY
UMa the same night, either visually or with a CCD; I
would be most interested to get a cross-check on my
results. (Isolated estimates would not really be useful
for this purpose because of differences between
observers).
Comments?
Regards,
Bill
