Seiichi Yoshida informed me of four suspected large amplitude red variables on DSS images, noted during his researches, that were worthy of further investigation. A star at 03 58 05.87 +47 13 01.1 (2000) clearly shows marked variation on four red plate images sourced via the USNOFS image and catalogue server at www.nofs.navy.mil/data/FchPix/ , marked variation is also seen on the four blue plates, and to a lesser extent variation is seen on one of the far red plates in comparison to the other two, which are overexposed. Contemporaneous E (red) and O (blue) plates from the 1950s DSS1 survey show the object to be far brighter on the red plate, and as already noted the object is very bright on far red IVN plates. It is also likely an IRAS source. This star is most likely a Mira.
