(fwd) Nova LMC 2002 (Liller) IAUC submission Date: Mon, 4 Mar 2002 11:00:33 -0500 From: "W.Liller" <wliller@compuserve.com> Subject: LMC nova... Hola Everyone - Here is the suggested text that I am sending to Dan Green at the IAUC: NOVA IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD 2002 W. Liller, Vi=F1a del Mar, Chile, reports his discovery of an appare= nt nova in the Large Magellanic Cloud on two unfiltered Kodak Technical Pan films obtained using a 0.2-m Schmidt camera on March 3.1 UT. The object was also present on two films taken on Feb. 27.1. It was not present on films taken of the region on Feb. 21.1. On Mar. 4.07, using a CCD at the= Schmidt's Newtonian focus, he measured the object's position as <alpha> =3D= 5h 36m 46.64s, <delta> =3D -71d 35' 34.4" (equinox 2000.0). On Mar. 4.09= . a low-dispersion objective-prism CCD spectrogram, also taken with the Schmidt, showed the object to have H-alpha in emission with a strength approximately 1.9 times that of the surrounding continuum. H-beta was al= so clearly present. Liller's observed magnitudes: Feb 21.0630 UT, >15.0; = 27.0642, 12.5: (through moonlit cirrus); Mar. 3.0664, 10.5; 4.0693, V =3D= 10.98 (comparison GSC 9171.1398)... = ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dan: this follows closely the text of IAUC 7453, "Nova in the LMC 2000". All the best to all, Bill Liller
