   The AAVSO is not under attack.  As one of the leading organizations
in the world, I feel I am responsible at least to some degree to the
future of variable star observing.  The same is probably true for the AAVSO
leader.  Since the presently discussed matter is not designed for
a short-period campaign, I feel that there is a need for sufficient
discussion (including scientific viewpoints) before finally launching
the program.
