[vsnet-lpv 20] GSC 4004 1031

This star is the carbon star CGCS 5091 [CGCS is Stephenson's 2nd Catalogue
of Carbon Stars].

It is also an IRAS point source object [IRAS 23357+5545].

As you are new to the internet, you may like the following marvellous
service, which is SIMBAD from the CDS Strasbourg.

If you go to http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/sim-fid.pl and type cgcs 5091 in
the search box you will find some limited data for this star.

In general you can find information for many stars this way: it is best to
have the "all measurements" setting in one of the dialogue boxes, and
possibly also to have "biblography" ticked.

If you ever use the co-ordinate search method, remember that an area is
searched, and not all the results are going to be for the same star.

From SIMBAD you can automatically link to images via Aladin, papers [if
any] via the ADS, and many other services.

Carbon stars can often be variable, sometimes at quite low amplitude. As
far as I can tell, no one else has noticed the variability of this star.

Cheers
